Are you using the right shampoo?
Shampoo can make all the difference in how your hair looks and feels. Is your hair color treated? The right formula can even help extend the life of your color. There are many types of shampoos on the market. Whether your hair is chemically altered or all natural, you should be using a professional shampoo.

There is a definite difference in the quality of shampoo. Salon purchased shampoos have better ingredients, are more concentrated, and are lower in sulfates than most non-professional shampoos. Some are even sodium or sulfate free, which is less drying to the hair. These concentrated formulas allow you to use a smaller amount of product, giving you a better value.

Many non-professional shampoos are less concentrated, which means you will need to use more of the product to get your hair clean. They may contain harsh foaming agents and larger amounts of sodium and ammonium sulfates. These ingredients allow the product to lather better, but strip the hair of its shine and condition. Some even have a waxy substance in them that coat the hair, giving a false sense of conditioning. This can build up and cause the hair to become heavy and limp.

Your hair is something that you wear every day. Be sure to protect it with a high quality shampoo. We have a professional shampoo that is made just for your hair type. Come in and let us help you find the right one.

How to know whether you should use a mousse or a gel
Are you confused about the difference between mousse and gel? You are probably not alone.  Here is an overview to help you understand these products better.

As a general rule mousse is designed to help add volume to your hair.  When using mousse you want to apply it on damp hair starting at the roots.  Then work the product toward the ends of the hair.  Concentrate the heat of your hair dryer at the roots first to get the most volume.  Mousse is a great choice for fine hair or short styles that need extra body.  It comes in a variety hold factors. Some brands are even available in spray form for easier application.

Gel, in contrast to mousse, is designed for hold and control.  It works well for thick, curly or wavy hair.  It will give hold and definition to both short and longer styles.  Gels range from thick strong hold, down to thin and light hold consistencies.  With gel you want to apply onto wet hair; taking care to make sure it is evenly distributed throughout the hair.  Style using a diffuser attachment on your hair dryer, or let the hair air dry for the best results.  The right gel can make your curl or wave look beautiful.

As with any hair care product, the staff at The Split End Salons can help you determine which would be the best styling product for your hair.  Don’t hesitate to ask us; we are here to help you make your hair look its best!
